What kind/type of paint and sealant did you use?

I originally just used spray paint and the spray paint sealer however I want to do better/more detailed work this time around.

incredible. I'm getting into some of this myself. Just started my first gun, just a cheap water pistol. Do you mind If I ask some questions? or maybe you could make some kind of tut?
My rust doesn't look bad but I like yours a lot more than mine, so I'd love to know what you use for that.
Also I have no clue how you made the wood-like handle and it could be useful to know that.

did the paint affect how the gun shoots in any way? (did you get any paint rubbed on your darts?)

GW miniature paints and inks. Drybrushing then using inks in cracks, and drybrushing again with metallic paints of different degrees of shinyness. Use brown, yellow green inks

Various ink washes, then after they dried, I dry brushed over it with the metallic color again.

Well that's the thing. There are so many different ways to go with this, and it's really hard to decide. I think I'm going to take a photo of it, live trace the image in Illustrator, simplify it to it's basic shapes, and do different colored versions. I'm thinking of giving it like a Mars rust look. I'm at least certain that I'm going to put a sheet of leather over the hand grip though.

Yea. I may be a nerd, but the possibilities are truly overwhelming. I like too many genres of geekdom to limit myself to straight sci-fi, steampunk, or grunge. I'm going to have to find some more guns. :D

Great detail work, looks insanely real.
May I ask, how long did it take, from start to finish, to achieve this level of detail?

The only parts that are a bit scratched are the inside middle clip cylinder and the sliding pump on top were it slides. Outside remains unscratched mainly because of a protective spray;)
